Bambarakanda Falls – $30.00 (3hrs)

The Bambarakanda Falls is the highest waterfall of Sri Lanka measuring 790 feet. It is situated 4900 feet above the sea level. The water fall down with high rock and knock other rocks increase the beauty of this fall. Water comes to this fall from Horton plains. The sight of the fall is still worth watching. The lush mountains surrounding the fall give it a wonderful look.

Horton Plains/World’s End – $90.00 (8hrs)

Horton Planes is the highest plateau in the country. It has a rich biodiversity. To the tourists, nature walk in Horton Plains Nature Reserve is very popular. In the Horton Plains, you will come across Elk, Deer, Giant Squirrel, Wild Boar, Wild Hare, Porcupine and a variety of Migratory birds, which are unique to this region. There are 16 Leopards in Horton Plains. If you are very lucky you may get a glimpse of a Leopard during your travel in the Horton Plains. The total distance of trekking in side the park is approximately of 6 kilometres.

The most amazing feature of Horton Plains has to be the stunning landscape known as World’s End, where the southern part of the plains drops almost vertically for 4,000 feet (1,200 m). It is one of the most visited parts of Horton Plains National Park and a key tourist attraction place in Sri Lanka. The ideal time to view this site is at dawn, when the mountains are free of mist and the sun is just rising.

Samanalawewa Reservoir – $20.00 (3hrs)

This 100 meters high dam has created a reservoir of nearly 350 sq. km. of water at the confluence of the Walawe Ganga and Belihuloya. This dam was completed in 1991 by the Japanese contractors. The still and calm waters of the Samanalawewa reservoir are perfect for canoeing.

The power station of the hydroelectric project which has a capacity of 120 MW is located about 6 kilometers from the dam at Kapugala. Permission to visit should be obtained from the Ceylon Electricity Board.

Tea Plantation & walk – $20.00 (3hrs)

Walking through tea plantation and patch of forests while enjoy sightings of birds and wild animals. Take in vistas of mountains, tea gardens and wild plants. The walk takes about four to five hours and the walking in the beautiful tea plantation with very nice landscape and panoramic view. Meals and tea will be provided at the estate. A guide can be provided or self-walk on marked trails.

Pahanthuda Ella Falls – $10.00 (1hr)

Pahanthuda literary means the wick (of a lamp). The Fall is named for its shape of the base pool which resembles a shape of a clay lamp. The waterfall resemble a the wick of the lamp.

This is located about 1.5 km off from Belihuloya Holiday Homes. To reach the fall you need to travel along the Ihalagalagama road for 1 km and then walk down the mountain for 1/2 km.

Kuragala Rock Cave/Duwili Ella Falls – $30.00 (4hrs)

Kuragala Rock Cave

The Kuragala cave monastery situated nearly twenty km off Balangoda on the Kalthota road had been built on the second century BC covering a series of rock outcrops with nearly 40 large caves. Known as the Thandulayia Pabbatha’ in ancient times, the monastery was first built by two princely brothers and it had evolved into a Buddhist temple and monastery system in the 16th Century AC. This is located about 30 kms from our holiday homes.

Kuragala to be a site graced by Lord Buddha the Gautama himself and four other Buddhas before him. Moreover some holds it to be the legendary Indragiri Kingdom, one of the seven kingdoms of King Ravana, a fabled prehistoric King of Lanka.

It believes the “Balangoda Man” lived surround in Kuragala Rock in the pre-historic ages.

Duwili Ella Falls

Duwili Ella is a marvelous creation of nature, cascades from a height of about 63 feet. It is located about 25 kms from our holiday homes at Thanjantenna a little to the inferior. It has been described as one of the most unusual waterfalls in Sri Lanka. The fat, the short, the old, the sprightly and not so agile.

The fall breaks up into two and coming down forms a pool of water below, the depth or size of which none have found out so far. From there the Walawe River flows up to the kaltota dam. The dust like drops of water emanating from the spray is the origin of the name Duwili Elle. For, ‘duwili’ in the sinhala language is dust. This waterfall and its natural beauty is a paradise, which attracts tourists from all over the world.

This fall can be viewed from opposite the waterfall which fell from a broad rock 40 metres down in a haze of water. It was the most fantastic sight because unlike other waterfalls what you see is a misty cascade of droplets in a sheer veil of shimmering light.

Uggal Aluthnuwara Dewalaya – $20.00 (2hrs)

Uggal Aluthnuwara Katharagama devale, which is located in Imbulpe Regional Secretarial Division in Rathnapura-Badulla route, seems to be inaugurated around 1303 A.D. Piled up vihara-house, which is now bereaved to ruins, tope (dagaba), Bo-tree, shrine of Kandasurindu and related kitchens, refectories and store-rooms have been erected in a winsome land of 10 acres. It is mentioned that this devale has been erected by a king called “Soorya”. After him King Yapa has reconstructed this place. King Seethawaka Rajasinha also contributed to ameliorate this place of worship. Portuguese have once invaded this area but no harm has happened to devale.

The oldest jack tree in Sri Lanka is also situated in the yard of this sacred place. The annual procession held by Uggal Aluthnuwara Katharagama devale is second only to the procession of Sabaragamuwa

Maha Saman Devale. According to documents in this place of worship, which is allied to Ammaduwa Katharagama devale, a large collection of lands and fields belong to Uggal Aluthnuwara devale. Visit Uggal Aluthnuwara the village around the Devalaya and other historical places and temples.

Surathali Elle Falls – $30.00 (2hrs)

Surathali Ella Falls is 60m in height, 2m wide and made up of three segments. This waterfall was previously known as Marangaha Ella but is now commonly known as Surathali Ella after a film called Surathali was made at this location.. It is bordered by an untouched wildlife sanctuary.

Nonpareil is a Tea estate and is located 5km away from Belihuloya. The estimate terrain elevation of this tea estate is 1597 metres above sea level.

Hirikatu Oya is a stream originating from Nonpareil Estate. You can enjoy the sceneries of nature when you drive on the road up to Nonperial Factory. To drive beyond Nonpareil Tea factory, you need to get permission from Balangoda Plantation (pvt) Ltd and you can drive to Horton Planes and world’s end.
